Alberta eScape

I had a chance in early 2002 to travel to the Province of Alberta on business. I left a weekend free to photograph winter scenes in the Banff area. Unfortunately, this was the weekend that my Fuji QuickLoad holder got a small piece of dirt jammed in the spring clip on the bottom and most of the box of film I shot ended up as blank because it did not grasp the metal clip -- what a costly way to learn ! This is the only time this holder has ever failed me, but I know now to check the film is in the proper position as I pull the sleeve for each exposure. However, this shot is interesting for no other reason it cost me 20 sheets of QuickLoads plus processing to get !

I was in Alberta on business in early 2004 and had to drive from Calgary to Edmonton early in the morning. I left before dawn and so was able to watch the light come up gradually. It was a wonderful morning with beautiful hoar frost on a lot of trees a bit north of red Deer plus some ground fog. I wanted so much to stop and photograph but business came first and I was running late. Somewhat later in the morning I had caught up a bit of time and decided to make a quick stop at these hay bales. The light was till pretty warm looking even though the true magic hour had passed. The single row of trees in the background really caught my eye.

In March 2005 I was out doing some training in Calgary and stayed out the following weekend and traveled up the Banff-Jasper highway a bit. Lighting was not great but I came across this frozen edge creek called Rampart Creek. In the dim light, a long 12s exposure later . . . .

I did take a couple of other keepers on this trip as well, maybe they will get posted later.
